What is the UĐ1 Visa? (The 2026 Update)

According to the newly amended Law on Entry and Exit (Law No. 118/2025/QH15), the UĐ1 Visa is specifically reserved for:

  1. High-Quality Digital Personnel: Experts, engineers, and researchers in core tech sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Semiconductors, Big Data, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity.

  2. Global Talents: Individuals recognized under special government incentives or international resolutions (e.g., those working within the Vietnam International Financial Center – VIFC).

Key Benefits:

  • Extended Validity: Issued for up to 5 years under standard law, and potentially up to 10 years for specialists in strategic financial zones.

  • Family Inclusion (UĐ2 Visa): Your spouse and children under 18 qualify for the UĐ2 Visa, matching your stay duration.

  • No More Border Runs: Unlike the 90-day eVisa, UĐ1 holders enjoy long-term stable residency without the need for constant exits.

Eligibility: Do You Qualify for UĐ1?

To be classified as “High-Quality Digital Talent” in 2026, applicants typically need to satisfy one of the following criteria:

  • Academic Excellence: A PhD or Master’s degree in STEM fields from top-ranked global universities.

  • Professional Experience: 10+ years of proven expertise or holding C-level/Founder positions in tech companies.

  • Strategic Employment: A signed labor contract with a licensed Vietnamese tech firm or a multinational corporation operating in Vietnam’s high-tech zones.

  • Digital Creators: Influential creators or artists with international awards and over 1 million followers (subject to specific cultural incentive quotas).

Required Documents for UĐ1 Application

Preparing your dossier early is crucial as the portal opens in July 2026. You will need:

  1. NZ Passport: Valid for at least 6 months (though we recommend 2+ years for long-term visas).

  2. Proof of Expertise: Degrees and work certificates, which must undergo [Consular Legalization] (See our guide for NZ documents).

  3. Sponsorship Letter: From a recognized Vietnamese technology organization or government body.

  4. Clean Criminal Record: A Ministry of Justice check from New Zealand (Legalized).

Why New Zealand Techies are Choosing Vietnam in 2026

With the cost of living in Auckland or Wellington rising, Vietnam offers a high-quality lifestyle at a fraction of the cost.

  • Global Community: Thriving expat hubs in Thao Dien (HCMC) and Tay Ho (Hanoi).

  • Infrastructure: 5G coverage in all major cities and a booming startup ecosystem.

  • Strategic Location: Easy 1-2 hour flights to Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong for regional business.

Exclusive Pre-Screening: The UĐ1 portal officially launches on July 1st, 2026. Want to know if your profile fits the new “High-Quality” criteria? [Contact our Tech Visa Team] for a 2-minute assessment and be the first in line for submission.
